With so many great makeup brushes on the market and so many for different things, it can get confusing knowing what brush you need for what and how many brushes are enough to do the job.
The truth is you don’t need many. I have so many brushes in my kit yet I tend to keep going back to the same 3 or 4 brushes.
One medium to smallish powder brush, an eyeshadow brush, an eye blending brush and a concealer brush. Although, these days with all of the cream or stick shadows, cream blushes and clicky-pen concealers, you can get away with even less! But for now let’s stick with those four brushes as the essentials.
1. The powder brush can cover you for powder, bronzer, contour (by shaping it with your fingers to make it slimmer), blush and highlighter.
2. An eyeshadow brush will do just that, eyeshadow. It will do the trick for all of the eyeshadow tones starting with the lightest colour, working your way to the darkest.
3. Eye blending brush. You may not see this as an essential, however, I think it is for beautiful seamless blending of all the eyeshadow colours. It’s a lot softer and less dense than the normal eyesadow brush which makes it perfect for blending.
4. The concealer brush. If you have a few blemishes or pigmentation that need pinpoint concealing then this is the brush. It allows for more precise control of where you put the concealer.
You may be wondering why I didn’t put in a foundation brush as an essential? That’s because I think hands are great for foundation plus you can wash them easily!
So there you go, you really don’t need many makeup brushes at all. A few good ones will be more than enough.
